What is the Truth?
The truth ... this really is a crucial concept. What is it, why does it matter and why are the guys of Faith Beyond Belief even worried about it? The following hopes to address these questions briefly in a simple FAQ format.
Why do you guys even bother?
Simply put people matter and, specifically, you matter. You are valuable and your well-being is important to us.
I don't need religion ... why should I even read this?
True, you don't need religion. But there are truths bigger than you & me. It only makes sense to try our best to understand these truths and deal with them.
What is truth? It's all relative anyway.
If I step of off the roof of my house, I fall. Gravity is true whether I believe in it or not. If there weren't truths our world could not make sense. We need to understand what is true; what corresponds to reality.
What truth do I need to deal with?
God says those that break his laws will be punished forever after they die; this is Hell. Lies, lust, abuse, hatred, self centred pride, disobedience and drunkenness, to name a few things, all break God's law.
What does that have to do with me? I'm a good person.
No you're not. Neither am I. We're both guilty of those sins I listed, and more.
So what ... I'm on my way to Hell?
On your own, yes. Just like I was. But, some 2000 years ago, Jesus, the God-man, came to earth to do a brutally wonderful thing. He lived a perfect, sinless life, he died on a mercilessly bloody Roman cross, he rose again and then returned to his Father.
What is so wonderful about that? Why did Jesus die on the cross?
On that cross, Jesus took the punishment for sin that we, who put our trust in him, deserved. He took our place.
What am I supposed to do about it?
You need to agree that you have broken God's law and deserve the punishment - Hell. You need to turn from that way of life and ask God for forgiveness. You need to put your trust in Jesus that his sacrifice has truly saved you from that punishment.
